Google has announced that the Find My Device functionality will be available to users starting today. Initially, the item tracker, headphones, and phone locater function will only be accessible in the United States and Canada.
“Find My Device can help you find your misplaced Android devices and everyday items quickly and securely with its new, crowdsourced network of over a billion Android devices,” stated Erik Kay, Google’s vice president of engineering. Although the actual debut date of the feature in India is unknown, it is expected to happen this year.
Kay says that Find My Device is private by design and secure by default. He stated, “You remain in control of the devices connected to the Find My Device network, and the multi-layered protections built into the network help keep you safe and your personal information private.”
This features aggregated device location reporting, a first-of-its-kind safety feature that offers further security against unauthorized tracking back to a home or private location, and end-to-end encryption of location data.
This tool functions very similar to Apple’s Find My functionality on Apple products. Even when they’re not online, users may use the Google app to find their compatible Android phone and tablet by calling them or seeing where they are on a map. Owners of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro can locate their smartphones even if the battery runs out or the device is turned off.
Google also said that customers would be able to find commonplace objects like wallets, keys, and bags using Bluetooth tracker tags from Pebblebee and Chipolo as of May 1.
To help protect you from unauthorized monitoring, these tags which were created especially for the Find My Device network will function with tracker warnings on both iOS and Android devices. Additionally, Google said that Find My Device would support Bluetooth tags from eufy, Jio, Motorola, and other companies later this year.
How Will The Feature Work?
A “Find nearby” button will show up to assist users in locating lost or misplaced devices and help them determine exactly where they are. The Find My Device function used to require an Internet connection to find a misplaced phone. With the help of Bluetooth, the updated capability functions even when devices are not connected.
