Seems problems are following Gotabaya Rajapaksa, former Sri Lankan President, everywhere he goes. After Maldives he left for Singapore and the country is not interested in letting him stay more than 15 days, as per the resources.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa In Trouble
Former Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa left the country with his wife and two body guards on Wednesday in a Military Jet. He went to the Maldives from where he headed straight for Singapore.
As per sources, the Singapore authorities had told him that his stay will be only 15 days long and after that he will have to leave, without any chance of getting extended.
Rajapaksa’s plan for the next 15 days are not clear, they said. As per the sources informed to CNN-News 18, he also approached Indian, but the request was denied as Indian doesn’t want to go against the people of Sri Lanka.
Rajapaksa’s Travel To Singapore
As announced by him, Rajpaska was supposed to resign from his post on July 13, “after thousands of protesters stormed his official residence, blaming him for the unprecedented economic crisis that has brought the country to its knees”, but he left for Maldives without resigning. From there he went straight to Singapore on Thursday.
An official from Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, that Rajapaksa has, ““allowed entry into Singapore on a private visit”.
Further reported that, he had “not asked for asylum and neither has he been granted any asylum.”

Official Resignation Announced
Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced officially on Firday, that Rajapksa has resigned, “ two days after the embattled leader fled the country in the face of massive protests against his government for mishandling the economy that bankrupted the country.”
Soon after Rajapaksa was allowed to enter Singapore on a ‘private visit’ he emailed his resignation to the speaker. ““I have received the resignation letter sent by President Rajapaksa. Accordingly, the president has resigned with effect from July 14”, he said.
In a press release speaker said, “that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will act as the interim president till the conclusion of the process of electing a new president by parliament.”
