As India keeps hovering at lower ranks in the ‘Press Freedom Index‘ a move by government highlighted why is it so. On Friday the government suspended the broadcast of two news channels.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry put 48 hours ban on two news channels from Kerala. The two Malayalam news channels Asianet News and MediaOne were the ones to be taken down on Friday. The channels were banned because of their reporting of the riots or the anti-CAA and NRC protests in North East Delhi.

As per the government order, the report by Asianet News could’ve “incited violence and posed danger to the maintenance of law and order situation”. The reporting by MediaOne “seems to be critical towards Delhi Police and RSS“, as per the order.
However, after the meeting of the representatives of the channels with the government the ban was lifted before 48-hours. As per reports on Saturday morning both the channels were back on air as the ban was lifted. The move has once again raised questions on the acts of government in restricting the press. Defending “RSS” ( Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ) is something that is questioned by many.
