The government of India in retaliation to the foul play by China along the LAC has put down a list of 59 Chinese apps that will no longer be available for download in India. The list of apps blocked by the Indian Government includes highly popular apps like TikTok, Shein, UC Browser, ShareIT and many more.
Minutes after the announcement was made, the government’s official TikTok account was disabled. Moreover, TikTok is no more available on the PlayStore while other apps still have not been taken down.
Sources said inputs from intelligence agencies suggested that the apps have been violating the terms of usage, compromising users’ privacy, and being used as spyware or malware.
The move comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India has given a “befitting response” to China. And stands firm with its pledge to become vocal for local. As the apps were blocked, a statement was issued that said that the apps were blocked “in view of the information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.”

The government of India, over the days, has taken measures amidst call to boycott Chinese goods and services. The authorities have earlier barred the use of Chinese 4G equipment. The Maharastra govt., on the other hand, has frozen a Rs 5,000-crore project given to China, while the UP government has said to no more use Chineses electricity meters anymore.
