The Government of India on Friday launched a new mobile app called ‘Mera Ration’ for the ration cardholders. The app, as per the details, will allow anyone, and especially migrant beneficiaries, too locate the nearest fair price shop. This is useful as migrant workers are usally not aware of the dynamics of the new city they travel to for work. Thus, the app will help them with such woes.
The android based app has been developed by the National Informatics Centre. It is currently available in Hindi and English language. Gradually, it would be made available in 14 languages.
The app is developed by the government in association with NIC “to facilitate various One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) related services among National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries, particularly migrant beneficiaries, FPS dealers and other relevant stakeholders,” the ministry said in a statement.

The app will give a boost to the government’s initiative of One Nation One Ration card. The program has now been implemented by as many as 17 states. Initially launched in 4 States in August 2019, the ONORC scheme was rolled out in 32 States/UTs by December 2020. Further, four States/UT (Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and West Bengal) are expected to join the same in the next few months.

As of now, there are as many as 70 crore people in India who take advantage of the cheap food grains under the NFSA. The food grains are collected from farmers at MSP by the Central government and then distributed to states who then re-distribute them to the people in need.
