Great News! Income Tax Refunds Are Being Issued—Have You Checked Your Account?

With the recent deadline for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) behind us, taxpayers nationwide have begun to see refunds processed into their bank accounts. After the Income Tax Department set September 16, 2025, as the last day to file ITRs for this cycle, anticipation has grown around when refunds would arrive for those who completed the process on time.

Individual taxpayers who filed and successfully e-verified their returns can expect the refund linked to their Permanent Account Number (PAN) to be credited directly into their accounts soon. For those still waiting, it’s essential to ensure that all filing details were accurate, as even minor errors can delay the process.

Why Was the ITR Deadline Extended This Year?

Initially, the deadline for submitting ITRs was September 15. However, due to unusually high traffic and technical issues with the e-filing portal, authorities decided to extend the cutoff by one day. This brief extension provided much-needed relief to users who faced trouble submitting their returns, as many were rushing to meet the original deadline.

The system was further stretched because the deadline for the advance tax’s second installment also fell on the same day, increasing the number of users on the portal. To address these issues and improve the portal’s functionality, scheduled maintenance occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, allowing technical teams to make crucial improvements.

If any hurdles were encountered while accessing the portal or filing returns, checking the checklist and official communications from the department can be helpful. Staying alert to these updates ensures that the refund process remains smooth and worry-free for everyone.
