The tussle between lawyers and police in Delhi doesn’t seem to die. Since the clash broke out between both the parties at the Tis Hazari court premises there, have been protests organized by lawyers and Police.
Yesterday, the Delhi Police organized a protest outside the police headquarters demanding appropriate actions against the lawyers who were guilty. Labeling the protest by Police as “politically motivated” the Bar Council of India (BCI) chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said that the council wants guilty police officials to be arrested within a week.
The BCI chairman also termed the protest by Police as the “darkest day in the history of independence”. BCI asked lawyers of Delhi Bar Association to end violence in Court premises with immediate effect yesterday.
However, the lawyers carried on their protest today and stopped the litigants from entering the court complex. The protest by Police officials yesterday came to an end after the Police Headquarters agreed to fulfill all there demands.
BCI has blamed the Delhi Police for remaining absent from duty, shouting slogans, using filthy language and threatening to smash and kill lawyers openly. BCI demanded the constitution of a high-level committee to probe the protest organized by Delhi Police.

The High Court of Delhi taking suo motu cognizance of the issue has called for a judicial inquiry into the matter under Justice (retd) S P Garg. A Special Investigation Team of Delhi Police headed by Delhi Police Commissioner would record the statements of 11 policemen and six advocates injured in the clashes.
