Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu won the tittle of Miss Universe at 70th Miss Universe 2021 held in Eilat, Israel.
She wore a silver piece with faux cap sleeves and a plunging neckline. The dress was encrusted with beads, sequins and crystal fringes arranged in a geometrical array to perfection.
Saisha Shinde was the master mind behind this shiny piece of perfection. Shinde is a Trans woman, fashion designer and celebrity stylist. She has dressed many famous celebrities; Disha Patani, Adline Castelino, Jasmin Bhasin, Riddhi Dogra are to name a few.
When asked about the inspiration for the dress Shinde pointed it towards the Phulkari motifs. She wanted to celebrate the Punjabi roots of Harnaaz Sandhu but did not want to make it literal.
Harnaz Sandhu’s dress took 25 days and multiple fittings in making.
Harnaaz made a special request to Shinde and wanted the dress to create minimum wastage. So the designer used materials that were already available in inventory. Dress has Swarovski chain crystals and beads arranged in traditional Phulkari motifs.
Designer Saisha Shinde changed her gender and name from Swapnil Tulsidas Shinde to Saisha Tulsidas Shinde earlier this year in June.
Sai Shinde is an active Trans Activist and believes that one should live their Truths fearlessly.
