In an attempt to make the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) platform the one-stop destination for all your travelling needs, IRCTC recently launched an online bus booking service.
IRCTC’s bus booking website brings a number of state and private-owned buses on the platform making it easier for people to find a ride. IRCTC, for the unaware, till now used to deal in train tickets.
Here is how to book a bus on the IRCTC website
As of now, IRCTC has informed that people can book a bus ticket only on IRCTC’s official website. However, soon, the service will be available on IRCTC’s official app too. To book a bus ticket via IRCTC, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the IRCTC site and find the ‘Bus Tickets’ option.

Step 2: Then you would be asked to enter details like where you want to travel and depart from, date of journey and more. Once you have filled in the details click on the Search button.
Step 3: A list of buses will show you the name of the bus operators, departure time, the total time it will take to reach your destination, arrival time, and the price of the service.

*Also, you can click on the ‘View More’ button tucked beside the name of the operator. By clicking the same, you can get details of what facilities you will get on that bus. You can also check the cancellation charges of each operator on the same page.
Step 4: Once you have selected the bus, then you need to click on Select seat. This is also the page where you can select the places from where you want the bus to pick you up from and drop you at. Note that the seats coloured in grey have already been booked by someone.

Step 5: After entering all the necessary details, you will be shown the total amount payable.
Step 6: Hit the proceed button. If you are not logged in, you will be asked to do the same. If already logged in, the site will show you your booking details and you will be required to enter your contact details and confirm the booking.
