How to Change a Name on Your Train Ticket
Did you make a mistake with your name while booking your train ticket? Want to transfer your ticket to a family member? Indian Railways has made this process much easier. You can now correct or update the name on your e-ticket, but remember, this option is available only once per ticket, so be sure before you make any changes.
Changing the Name Online
- Start by logging into your IRCTC account with your username and password.
- On your dashboard, you’ll find an option called “Change Boarding Point and Passenger Name Request.”
- Click on it to download the request form.
- Fill out the form with the correct details, then upload it to the website.
- After you submit, IRCTC will process your request. In most cases, the change is made quickly, letting you travel with peace of mind.
Changing the Name at the Station
If you prefer to handle things in person, head to your nearest railway reservation counter at least a day before your train departs. Bring a printout of your booked ticket and the original ID proof of one of the passengers listed. Don’t forget a photocopy of the ID. Ask the counter official to help you change the name or transfer the ticket to a family member. The staff is usually helpful and will guide you through the process.
Why is it important?
This facility is especially useful when plans change and someone else in your family needs to travel. Whether you choose to update the name online or at the station, the process is now simple and quick, ensuring your journey is hassle-free. Indian Railways is making travel easier for everyone, so you can focus on enjoying your trip!
