How To Lock-Unlock Aadhaar Card? Follow These Easy Steps

In India, the Aadhaar card has is termed as one of the most essential and important documents that are required in every official work. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) issues a unique 12-digit identity number. Moreover, the Aadhaar card contains demographic as well as biometric data of a person.

UIDAI has come up with certain updates and changes in order to avoid mishandling and misuse of the personal information of the cardholders. These changes secure cardholders’ information effectively and allow to lock-unlock Aadhaar Card.

Steps To Lock Aadhaar Card Biometrics

This facility prescribed by the UIDAI allows the cardholders to lock their Aadhaar card when not in use and vice-versa. It helps in securing and protecting cards than ever.

Step 1: Go to the official website of UIDAI or click the link – uidai.gov.in.

Step 2: Then scroll to the ‘Aadhaar Services‘ section in the ‘My Aadhaar‘ tab and click on the Aadhaar lock and unlock option.

Step 3: Now, users will be redirected to a new page where they need to select the ‘Lock UID’ option.

Step 4: On this page, users may enter the 12-digit UID or Aadhaar card number.

Step 5: Now, enter details like the cardholder’s name and pin code.

Step 6: Hit the ‘Verify’ option after entering the security code.

Step 7: Once they complete the above steps, click on the ‘Send OTP’ option and enter the code sent on the registered mobile number.

Steps To Unlock The Aadhaar card

Step 1: To unlock Aadhaar, cardholders must first send SMS to the 1947 number by typing GETOTP Aadhaar number.

Step 2: Once the 6-digit OTP is received, then type the UNLOCKUID Aadhaar number and OTP, and again send the message to 1947. 

In this way, your Aadhaar number will be unlocked.
