As the nation’s capital and the regions around it struggle with extreme heat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Wednesday that the monsoon will likely arrive in Delhi-NCR around June 30. IMD further stated that on Wednesday in Delhi, dust storms and mild to moderate rainfall are predicted.
Delhi is anticipated to have mild rain and thunderstorms when the monsoon arrives, which will probably lower the city’s temperature. The monsoon season in Delhi normally lasts between July and August.
Due to the extreme heatwave conditions, the MeT department has issued red alerts for West Uttar Pradesh for the next two days and Wednesday in Uttar Pradesh. Given the increasing temperatures, Delhi was also placed under a red warning till June 19.
“We had issued a red alert for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar yesterday, but today conditions have improved,” IMD scientist Dr. Naresh Kumar told ANI. In Bihar, there has been precipitation.
“We have issued an orange alert for Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR, but we have issued a red alert for West Uttar Pradesh for the next two days, and there is a red alert for Uttar Pradesh as well today,” the scientist told ANI. It is predicted to reach about 40 degrees Celsius in Delhi-NCR. The Delhi-NCR monsoon is predicted to arrive around June 30. Dust storms and mild to moderate rainfall are still possible in Delhi today.
For the next two days, a heatwave is expected to persist in several areas of northern and northwest India, according to the meteorological service. Western Uttar Pradesh and certain portions of Punjab are predicted to experience heatwave conditions through June 20.
The IMD predicts that during the next three days, East India’s temperature will drop by two to three degrees Celsius. “Hot & Humid weather is very likely over Odisha during the 18th–20th; Gangetic West Bengal on the 18th and Bihar on the 20th June 2024,” the meteorological authority added.
