Covid-hit Pakistan’s PM Imran Khan; Still Holds In-Person Meeting

Despite infected with Covid-19, Pakistani PM Imraan Khan held an in-person meeting. 

Islamabad: Pakistan PM Imraan Khan came under criticism for oppositions as well as the public for attending an in-person meeting despite infected with Covid-19, as per the media report. He tested Covid-19 positive just a couple of days ago, just after getting a Chinese Covid-19 vaccine. Not only Imraan Khan but his wife Bushra Bibi also tested Covid-19 +ve on the same day.

Imraan Khan vaccinated with the Chinese-produced Sinopharm vaccine. It is the only vaccine available in Pakistan. The criticism of Pakistan’s Prime Minister began soon after the picture uploaded on social media by Information and Broadcasting Minister Shibli Faraz and other lawmakers present in the meeting.

The above picture shows that Pakistani PM Imran Khan sitting in a room with his media team including Mr Javed, Mr Faraz, Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari, and Yousuf Baig Mirza.

As per the Dawn newspaper, the meeting was held on Imraan Khan’s Banigala residence on Thursday. As soon as the picture posted on social media, oppositions said that the PM himself have violated the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) even though the third wave of the COVID-19 disease. They also called for an FIR (First Investigation Report) against all those people who attended the meeting and violated Pakistan’s Covid-19 SOP.

The report said that no government’s spokesperson could stand with PM Imraan Khan on conducting the meeting during the quarantine period. In response to the post uploaded on social media, people wondered “Was it necessary for PM to chair a meeting during the quarantined period”. Also, they asked why the Prime Minister did not hold the meeting via video-conferencing.
