In what can be said as ‘Shaheen Bagh‘ like a protest that took place in Chennai protestors were hit hard. Thousands of people came to protest the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). The protestors gathered at Washermanpet in Chennai.
Police open lathi charge on the protestors and detained over 100 people. The protest was held yesterday evening. The protestors were trying to push the police barricades which led to the scuffle with the police.
After the police’s action people took to streets to protest. Major protests were organized across various cities in Tamil Nadu. The mid-night protest erupted in the state. Reports of death due to stampede also came. The state is in boil after the Police brutalities on the protestors.

The Chennai police are alleged of targeting people from the ‘Muslim’ community who formed the major chunk of protestors. Netizens also showed solidarity to the protestors. Twitter saw #ChennaiShaheenBagh trending on Saturday.
