Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that India would extend $400 million line of credit to its neighboring island nation Sri Lanka for strengthening its economy. Out of this $ 100 million credit line is given for solar projects.

India has also created 46,000 houses in Sri Lanka under the Indian housing project which is an extension of the Government of India’s commitment to construct 50,000 homes in Sri Lanka for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by the 26-year civil war.

The announcements were made after PM Modi’s meeting with Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who is on a three-day visit India.
