Being its aatmanirbhar self, an Indian substitute to Twitter called ‘Tooter’ has taken over the internet and everyone is wondering what it’s all about.
Tooter is gaining reactions from people for being “swadeshi”. Tooter is a platform that follows the same mechanics as Twitter. A user of the app can create an account with a @username and email address, follow other accounts, read through a feed populated with posts from other accounts, as well as customise groups and lists. Its posts are called toots (instead of tweets).
The app is available in both, Web and App version.
The app was made sometime in June but was recently spotted by a journalist. Interestingly, the app has verified profiles of a number of prominent Indian personalities including PM Modi, Abhishek Bachchan, Virat Kohli and Amit Shah.
Tooter’s sign-up page calls the platform “Swadeshi Andolan 2.0”.
“We believe that India should have a Swadeshi social network. Without one we are just a digital colony of American Twitter India Company, no different than what we were under the British East India Company,” reads the About Tooter page.
Ever since the app has been spotted, people can’t stop making memes about it.
