The Indian Railways Minister, Piyush Goyal, reported that Indian Railways witnessed zero passenger death in the current financial year, which is 2019-20. This was the first time in 166 years that there were no death-related causalities in a financial year.

Goyal took on Twitter to share a report that stated that the total numbers of consequential accidents, like collisions and derailment, decreased by nearly 95% over the last 38 years. The plunge in the causalities in the cause of modern techniques like ultrasonic flaw detection (USFD) testing of rails to detect flaws and timely removal of defective rails, timely inspection of tracks and more.
