Indian Railways May Stop Operation Of ‘Shramik Special Trains’

While they were being run to ferry migrant workers to their home amidst pandemic issues kept them surrounded. From deaths on board to hungry passengers ‘Shramik Special‘ Trains rarely had anything special. And now even that service can be stopped by the Indian Railways.

As per reports from Aajtak Indian Railways has hinted to stop the operations of the ‘Shramik Special Trains’. As per procedure, the Railways run these trains on-demand from states. As of now, it has only received demands for 321 trains. Based on the current running capacity this target can be achieved in 2 days.

The Railways asked for the list of migrant workers from the state by 30th May for scheduling train. And as of that date requests for 321 trains were made. Out of this majority of the trains are requested by West Bengal. So, far Railways has run 4,000 such trains ferrying around 56 lakh migrants. States like Bihar who have received around 32 lakh migrants have shown indications of stop receiving more.

Meanwhile, Railways started the operation of 200 trains from yesterday. Out of this 60 % of trains are running under the north zone of the Indian railways which includes stations like New Delhi with heavy traffic.
