Why International Women’s Day is celebrated?
This Day stems from a workers’ movement. This day was first emerged in the 20th century in Europe and North America, when 15,000 women marched in New York City in 1908, demanding fewer hours in the job. Additionally, they also demanded that they must get a better salary and the right to vote. A year later, the Socialist Party of America declared this day as the first National Women’s Day. In the year 2015, countries adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Countries like Armenia, Cuba, Russia, Mongolia, Ukraine and Uganda celebrate International Women’s Day as an official holiday.
