Sleep is an important part of living a healthy life. Many people feel that sleeping with their TVs on gives them a good sleep. But experts do not agree with this.
With your TV on you expose yourself too much to blue light which increases risk of obesity, diabetes and other health problems. Let’s know why it is not ok to switch on your TV while you are sleeping.
Lowered Melatonin Production
Melatonin is the hormone that helps you to sleep. It gives signal to your body that you should take rest and recover yourself. Blue light emitted from devices like TV and Laptop lowers the production of Melatonin in your body. Your brain gets confused whether it is day or night. This makes it difficult for brain to fall asleep or stay asleep.

Piled Up Sleep Debt
We need to take a good 8 hour sleep every night to give rest to our brain. Sleep debt is term used for any amount that is less than eight hours. If you have slept for 7 hours then you have sleep debt of 1 hour. The sleep debt lowers your ability to focus and you should avoid that. If your brain is continuously piling up on sleep debt then it may cause mental health problems.
Stimulates Your Brain
Switched on TV continuously gives stimulation to your brain. Stimulation keeps your brain active which makes it hard for you to get good sleep. When you receive continuous stimulation you will get a restless sleep and you will never get deep sleep that your body needs. TV also has continuous change in sound which also causes stimulation.
Affects Your Health
If you are not getting adequate deep sleep you will have negative effects on your health. Some of the key health problems are memory loss, weak immunity, high blood pressure.
Even when you are sleeping for straight eight hours you might feel uneasy. The effects can be observed after certain time. Your performance at work may get bad and you might be anxious all the time.
So do not switch on your TV while sleeping.
