Arundhati Bhattacharya Concerned About IT Sector
Former SBI chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya is the 5th most powerful woman in Finance said Forbes in 2016. She said in her recent statement that the IT sector in India is facing a skill shortage crisis. According to Financial Times, companies are finding it difficult to meet the rising demand. It is becoming hard to compete with other well-financed startups.
Arundhati Bhattacharya is currently serving as a chairperson and CEO of an American company. She said that her company was speeding to hire and coach the staff, after the pandemic. As the pandemic situation ends the demand also rises up.
She cited in an interview with Financial Times “We are doing a number of things which we feel in the medium term will solve our issues. And it’s not only us, the entire IT sector is doing it”, “In the shorter term, however, there is a crisis.”
India serves as the base to provide back-office services to the world’s biggest companies which include Astra Zeneca, Microsoft, Citibank UK and many more. This shortage is a very major challenge for our country with the lack of skills in the IT sector.

Measures Taken by Salesforce India
If we talk about Salesforce India, since the joining of Bhattacharya it has increased the number of employees to 6500 now from 2500. It is a big enhancement.
The former Chairperson of SBI also mentions the company talking to the colleges about the skills developments. And also maintaining the communication with other companies who can search for talented and bright girls or boys. Also, we are taking another step to create a programme for women to welcome them again into the workforce.
It’s true that pandemic has imbalanced the working structure and productivity of the entire employment sector. According to the Financial Times, the TCS HR head said that TCS has hired 77000 fresher graduates in nine months.
