On Wednesday, The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extended the due date or last date for ITR filing for the companies and specific taxpayers till November 7th of 2022 for the assessment year 2022-2023. Before this extension announcement, the last date to file the ITR was October 31.
ITR Filing Last Date Extended Till 7th November
CBDT announced the last date extension of the ITR filing due date on Twitter.
“CBDT… extends the due date of furnishing of Return of Income under sub-section (1) of section 139 of the Act for the Assessment Year 2022-23, which is October 31, 2022… to November 7, 2022,” read the CBDT notification.
The reason for this 7 days extension was given by CBDT, the prime authority when it comes to Income Tax. It said the extension has been granted “because the extra time of up to October 7 was granted for filing various audit reports in the case of these entities.”
“Due to the 7 days extension given for filing tax audit reports that were due on 30 September 2022, the CBDT has now provided a similar extension for return filing for such tax audit assessments. The due date which was 31 October 2022 is now extended to 7 November 2022. Unlike similar extensions provided in the past, provisions of 234A, interest on account of late filing, are not attracted in this case. This is a welcome move by the CBDT”, stated Partner of Direct Taxes, Anita Basrur, from Sudit K. Parekh & Co. LLP.
