Ordering vegetables, fruits and groceries will very soon be just a WhatsApp away. Ambani’s JioMart has announced partnership with one of the most popular messaging app, WhatsApp. The move will scale up the business and establish exponential growth of JioMart in the FMCG market.
JioMart is currently competing with Amazon, Walmart, Big Basket, Grofers, Swiggy and Zomato. In an already overcrowded sector the move might provide an edge to JioMart for customer base.
Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani made the announcement at Fuel for India, a Meta (formerly known as Facebook) event.
Tap and Chat
The duo talked about “tap and chat” option that will connect customers to retailers. There will be no delivery charges and no minimum order value. Customers will be able to order both on JioMart app and WhatsApp chat.
“The JioMart experience through WhatsApp is actually very simple and conversational in nature. WhatsApp is extremely simple and easy to use; So there is no customer inhibition when ordering for supplies” said Akash Ambani.
“Bread, butter, vegetables, beverages, everything that you need in your household that day or that week. Look up a product, set up a subscription for a regular buy if that’s what you want, or get personalized recommendations based on your past purchase history, it’s all there,” Isha Ambani said.
Meta, then Facebook, invested 5.7 Billion US dollars last year in Jio Platforms for 9.99 percent stake.
Jio and Meta partnership aimed at connecting half a million retailers to 400 million WhatsApp users and get an edge over other competitors in retail market.
The service will be available to users by 2022. Pilot scale testing of JioMart is happening right now to identify gaps and holes.
Very soon Reliance Jio prepaid users will be able to recharge using WhatsApp.
