Kavach is a completely Made in India automatic train protection system that is designed to make your journey more safe and reliable. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav marked his presence at first testing of Kavach on Friday.
The testing was done in Hyderabad and the system successfully passed anti-collision test. The moment was recorded as ‘phenomenal improvement in safety and a great contribution to accident prevention’.
Indian Railways has said that indigenous automatic train protection system is the cheapest system in the world. It will greatly reduce the train accidents which causes loss of life every year. Indian passengers would not feel unsafe on their journey. More than 22 million passengers travel in train every day in India.

- The testing of the system was done between Gullaguda and Chitgidda Railway Station on Lingampalli-Vikarabad section of Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway.
- As part of the testing, Ashwini Vaishnav was sitting in one train and Vinay Kumar Tripathi Chairman and CEO of Railway Board was sitting on another train. Both the trains were running on same track but coming from opposite directions.
- Kavach worked smoothly and stopped the trains and prevented the collision.
- This milestone was a major celebratory moment in the history of Indian Railways.
- Kavach is designed to stop the train if it notices another train coming on same line from a certain distance.
- Train will also automatically stop if it sees any kind of error or malfunction on the train track.
- The system has a display called as On-Board Display of Signal Aspect (OBDSA); which will help the pilot on board to check the signals given by Kavach.
- RFID Tags will be provided on tracks and station yard for track identification, location of trains and identification of directions of trains within 5 km range.
