As the country protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which is blamed for granting citizenship on communal lines Kerala legislative assembly became the 1st in the country to pass a resolution against it.
On Tuesday the 140 seat assembly passed a resolution to withdraw the CAA which was moved by the Chief Minister of the state Pinarayi Vijayan. All parties except the BJP which has one member in the assembly supported the bill.

The act has got petitions filed against it in the Supreme Court where the next hearing is scheduled in January 2020. In the first hearing, the government got a breather from the apex judiciary as it didn’t but a stay on the act.
