In an interview that is making headlines former Pakistan Prime Minister (PM), General Pervez Musharraf has said that global terrorist Osama Bin Laden was the hero of Pakistan.
The former PM also admitted that Kashmiris were “trained in Pakistan” as Mujahideen to fight against the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has always been accused by India of causing trouble in Kashmir and these revelations by Musharraf put a seal of confirmation on India’s allegations.
Gen Musharraf blurts that militants were nurtured and touted as ‘heroes’ to fight in Kashmir. If it resulted in destruction of two generations of Pashtuns it didn’t matter. Musharraf said that “Kashmiris who came to Pakistan received a hero reception here. We used to train them and support them. We considered them as Mujahideen who will fight with the Indian Army. Then, various terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba rose in this period. They (jihadi terrorists) were our heroes.”
With a sense of proud Musharraf said that Osama bin Laden and Jalaluddin Haqqani were “Pakistani heroes”. The clip of Musharaf’s interview was shared by Pakistani politician Farhatullah Babar on his Twitter account on Wednesday.

Explaining the start of the militancy and the need for it Musharraf said, “In 1979, we had introduced religious militancy in Afghanistan to benefit Pakistan and to push the Soviets out of the country. We brought Mujahideen from all over the world, we trained them and supplied weapons to them. We trained the Taliban, sent them in. They were our heroes. Haqqani was our hero. Osama bin Laden was our hero. Ayman al-Zawahiri was our hero. Then the global environment changed. The world started viewing things differently. Our heroes were turned into villains.”
Osama Bin Laden was killed in a mission carried out by US Navy SEALs in Abbottabad in 2012. The revelations by Musharraf put out the “Terrorist Face” of Pakistan in front of the whole world and is enough to satisfy all the allegations put by India on Pakistan.
