The Indian government has once again announced that PAN and Aadhaar Cardholders must link the PAN and Aadhaar till June 30, 2021. In case, if they fail to link them the PAN card will become “inoperative”. Also, they need to pay a penalty of ₹1,000.
The government said that Earlier, the government had set the end date as March 31 to link these two documents. However, the deadline has once again extended till June 30 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the order released on March 31, the government said, “Representations have been received from taxpayers that the last date for intimating the Aadhaar number may further be extended in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Keeping in view the difficulties faced by the taxpayers, the Central Government has issued a notification today extending the last date for the intimation of Aadhaar number and linking thereof with PAN to 30th June 2021”.
Here is How to Link PAN With Aadhaar
You can link PAN with Aadhaar through the income tax department e-filling portal or SMS or nearby PAN service center.
Through SMS
To link Aadhaar and PAN via SMS, you are required to send an SM from the registered mobile numbers. Type UIDPAN (12-digit Aadhaar Number) (10-digit PAN) in the given format and send it to 567678 or 56161.

Via Income Tax Department’s e-Filing Portal
Visit the income tax department’s e-filing official website and search section “Link Aadhaar” section. Here, you need to enter details, like name, Aadhaar number, and PAN card number correctly. Doing this would validate and these two documents would be linked.
Visiting a nearby PAN service center
If you want to link your PAN card and Aadhaar number manually, simply visit a nearby PAN or Aadhaar service center. Fill the form called ‘Annexure-I’ and submit it with a copy of the PAN card and Aadhaar card.
