In an uncommon way of online fraud, a man was cheated of INR 1 lakh while transacting through popular online payment portals Paytm and Google Pay. The incident has been reported from the Thane district of Maharashtra.
As per reports, the man (who lost the money) posted an advertisement on Facebook for selling his furniture. In response to his advertisement, a person named Rajendra Sharma contacted him and showed interest in purchasing the furniture.
Sharma said to transfer an amount for INR 1.01 lakhs through payment gateways — Paytm and Google Pay for the purchase of the furniture. However, as per the complainant, 1.01 lakh was debited from his account during three transactions on the two payment gateways.
On realizing that he has been cheated the complainant contacted Sharma and also reported the police about the incident. However, Sharma assured that he would return the money and asked the complainant for another account number.

Police have registered an offense against the unidentified accused under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act and further investigations are underway.
