This move aims to provide quick access to transport-related services and streamline license facilities. The entire process will be carried out through Aadhaar-based authentication.

Officials have observed that many vehicle owners frequently change their mobile numbers or addresses, often to avoid penalties or fines. By linking your mobile number, transport departments can maintain accurate records, ensure fair tracking, and improve transparency. In the coming years, Aadhaar-linked address updates may also become compulsory for all license and vehicle registration services.
How and Where to Update Your Details
You can update your mobile number online at two official government portals:
- Vahan Portal – For Vehicle Registration Certificates (RC)
- Sarathi Portal – For Driving Licenses
State transport divisions are already sending reminders, urging citizens to update their details as soon as possible.
Steps to Link Mobile Number with Vehicle RC (Registration Certificate):
- Go to parivahan.gov.in
- Select “Update Mobile Number through Aadhaar”
- Enter required details: vehicle registration number, chassis number, engine number, registration date, and validity
- Authenticate using Aadhaar
- Enter the security code and click Submit
Steps to Link Mobile Number with Driving License:
- Visit the Sarathi portal (sarathi.parivahan.gov.in)
- Enter license details: driving license number, date of birth, state, and captcha code
- Complete Aadhaar authentication
- Click Submit to finalize
