Tata Group has appointed a new MD and CEO for Air India which it acquired few weeks back from the government. Ilker Ayci will be the new Managing Director and CEO from or before April 1, 2022. The move has been taken by Tata Group to revive Air India and make it a huge success on both domestic and international routes.
Ilker Ayci before joining hands with Tata Group was serving as Chairman of Turkish Airlines and he had been on the position since 2015. He resigned from the position of Chairman from Turkish Airlines on January 27. It is to note that on same day Air India was handed over by the government of India to Tata Group.
Ayci had a robust career where he has proved his strong leadership and understanding of business. He has been advisor to Recep Tayyip Erdogan, then Mayor of Istanbul in Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul. He helped Recep to start numerous development projects and helped him to complete them. Recep is currently President of Turkey.

New MD CEO of Airline was born in Istanbul in 1971. He studied at Department of Political Science and Public Administration, Bilkent University in 1994. H ethen went on do to research work in 1995 at University of Leeds, UK. Later he did his masters in International Relations from Marmara University in 1997.
Future Of Air India
Tata Group gave a statement that said, “The Air India board met this afternoon to consider the candidature of Mr. Ilker Ayci. Mr. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, was a special invitee to this board meeting. The board after due deliberations approved the appointment of Mr. Ilker Ayci as the CEO & MD of Air India. This appointment is subject to requisite regulatory approvals.”
N Chandrasekaran Chairman of Tata Group said that, “Ilker is an aviation industry leader who led Turkish Airlines to its current success during his tenure there. We are delighted to welcome Ilker to the Tata Group where he would lead Air India into the new era.” Currently, the airline has 1800 international and 4400 domestics parking and landing slots at several airports.
