As many as three Associated Press’ photographers won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for the talent they home.
AP photographers named Dar Yasin, Mukhtar Khan, and Channi Anand won the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for their coverage in Jammu & Kashmir post the subrogation of Article 370 in the valley.
The winner Dar Yasin and Mukhtar Khan hail from Srinagar, while Channi Anand hails from Jammu. Channi Anand has been working for over two decades in the photojournalism field.
Dar Yasin, on the other hand besides covering conflicts in Kashmir has also covered the Afghan War, Afghan Refugees, South Asia earthquake, the Rohingya refugee crisis, etc.
His list of achievements is mind-boggling with awards like including the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, Robert F. Kennedy Award, and the 2019 Yannis Behrakis International Photojournalism Award.
Lastly, Mukhtar Khan, who also won the Atlanta Photojournalism Award in 2015, has extensively covered the stories of Kashmir conflict in his two-decade-long career.

With the day to day restrictions placed on the valley, coming up with such pictures is surely not an easy task, says AP. Also, the photographers had to send pictures through people living in the valley to AP’s office in Delhi due to internet shutdown.
“It was always cat-and-mouse. These things made us more determined than ever to never be silenced,” says Dan Yasir.
