Himachal Pradesh, currently veiled in snow, can literally make snow white shy. And until the snow-white arrives, tourists and locals are gathering in the state to enjoy the commencement of the two-month-long “snow festival” in Lahaul valley.
The ongoing snow festival is ought to please tourists who are visiting the state after months of captivity amidst the lockdown.

Pankaj Rai, Deputy Commissioner, Lahaul-Spiti, told Outlook, “The aim of hosting the winter festival is to be able to attract tourists to the region and also revive some of the long-lost traditions practiced by the locals.”

Pankaj Rai further sharing about the impact of lockdown on the region said, “Earlier, during winters, the people of the region were cut off from the rest of the world. During that time the only major activity they indulged in was partaking in rituals and attending winter festivals held in different parts of the valley. Now, we have tried to combine all those winter activities and showcase them on one platform”.

An array of cultural items are also being exhibited during the two months long snow-fest thus allowing people to get to know more about the local Himachali culture.
