Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on November 2 inaugurated India’s first solar-powered miniature train service in Veli, Kerala in an attempt to boost tourism.

The train service is touted to attract children and is a part of projects taken up by the state government to elevate the facilities at the panoramic destination that Veli is.
The train, at one time, can carry as many as 45 people and has 3three bogies. The total length of the ride is 2.5 km and features infrastructure like a tunnel, station and a ticket office.

The project has been erected in Veli for it is a scenic spot in Kerala on the outskirts of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram where the lake meets the sea.
While the train would be an attraction for children, the station house has also been designed in a traditional style. The whole project is a part of Rs 60 crore projects that have been planned to further beauty Veli.
CM Pinarayi also dedicated an “Urban Park” and a swimming pool at the eco-friendly Veli village, located on the outskirts of the state capital where the Veli Lake meets the Arabian Sea.
Toy trains are usually popular in North India one among the best being the Kalka-Shimla Toy Train.

The train takes you on a journey through lush green mountains with scenic, misty views and through 103 tunnels and 850 bridges. Though not the safest advice, but one would invariably feel the urge to stand at the doors of the Kalka-Shimla toy train right from the beginning of the 5.5 hours journey.
