As India is fighting with the pandemic it has been hit by another mysterious disease. This has mostly children as its target. The mysterious Kawasaki disease has been reported among children in Mumbai. Doctors in Mumbai said that many young patients have shown symptoms of the disease.
Kawasaki(aka mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome) is a syndrome of unknown cause that results in a fever and mainly affects children under 5 years of age. The disease causes blood vessels to become inflamed throughout the body. The fever due to Kawasaki typically lasts for more than five days and is not affected by usual medication. Patients have been reported from the UK, US, Italy, Spain, and China as the pandemic has kept on jolting the globe.

Now, India has also come under its effect. The disease is also a leading cause of heart disease in children. The symptom of the disease include:
- Fever above 102 degrees F lasting for 5 days or more
- Rash anywhere on the body, but more severe in the diaper area
- Swollen glands in the neck
- Dry, cracked lips
- Red eyes
- Peeling fingers and toes
- Irritability and fussiness
The disease which can damage coronary arteries in children was first described in Japan by Tomisaku Kawasaki from where it gets its name. The first case was reported in 14 years old children in Mumbai. “Kawasaki disease generally affects those aged less than five, but children between 10-14 years with Covid were showing its symptoms,” said the doctors. Further, the doctors have said that children mostly develop the Kawasaki-like symptoms two-three weeks after infection with COVID-19.
