In response to an RTI (Right to Information) query filed by a Hyderabad-based anti-corruption activist Vijay Gopal, the city Police has replied that multiplexes and theatres cannot restrict movie-goers from carrying food and water bottles to the cinema hall.
The Hyderabad Police in its reply clarified that there are no curbs by law to carry food and water in the cinema hall and theaters. The Cinema Regulation Act of 1955, puts no restrictions on letting a customer carry his own snack box or water bottles. However, despite the law, most multiplexes do not allow customers to carry food or beverages citing security issues.

Allowing movie-goers to carry there own food and water bottles is something that multiplexes and cinema halls across the country prohibit and is not the case alone with Hyderabad. The movie watchers are thus left with no option but to buy the high priced food from the “food lounge” of the respective cinema hall/theater.
