Bahubali was one of the most successful franchises in a few years and the success was noted by every single OTT platform. Netflix partnered with SS Rajamouli to make a prequel to the franchise titled Bahubali: Before The Beginning.
The webseries was meant to showcase rise of Shivagami, mother of Amarendra Bahubali. Mrunal Thakur was to be cast in the Netflix series as a lead and Deva Katta was to be the director of the series.
Rahul Bose and Atul Kulkarni were to be part of the cast in strong characters.

The Netflix series was shot over a period of 6 months and massive sets were produced in Hyderabad. An estimated budget of nearly Rs 100 crore was invested. A yearlong post production editing went into the series after which the makers decided to shelve the project. The makers want to revamp the show with a new cast. According to a source, Ribhu Dasgupta and Kunal Deshmukh will replace Deva Katta as the director of the web series. The remake of Bahubali: Before The Beginning began in July 2021.
However, things did not go well in the eyes of Netflix and by the end of 2021 company decided to shelve the project completely. The company said that the vision Netflix had for period drama did not sync with the makers. The company decided that it would consider Rs 150 crore invested in the web series as bad debt. The product was of substandard quality and it could not see the light of the day at any cost.
