The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced two new initiatives for stakeholders and citizens in response to the success of the Sanchar Saathi portal, which since its launch in May of last year has helped prevent over 1 crore fraudulent connections and protect Rs 1,000 crore in citizen money.
The “Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP),” which was presented by MoS Devusinh Chauhan and Minister of Communications, Electronics, and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, aims to create cooperation amongst stakeholders in the fight against financial fraud and the misuse of telecom resources.
They also introduced ‘Chakshu,’ which is available on the Sanchar Saathi website, to enable people to report suspicious fraudulent messages in advance. Chakshu, which gets its name from the Hindi word for “eye,” allows people to report scams they have received by SMS, calls, or apps like WhatsApp.
The platform gets these complaints, performs re-verification processes, and disconnects the number in question if such procedures are unsuccessful. The government guarantees that login credentials and other information will be kept private and not disclosed to outside parties.
Steps To Raise A Complaint On The Chakshu Platform
- Visit the webpage of Sanchar Saathi.
- Select ‘Report Suspected Fraud Communication- Chakshu’.
- A new window will appear, displaying information on Chakshu. To continue reporting, choose “Continue.”
- Choose the suspected fraud’s media (WhatsApp, SMS, or call).
- Tell us about the communication facts, including if it was a robo-communication, a fake customer service agent, an online job or lottery, or a KYC or insurance scam.
- You must provide the date and time, along with any relevant screenshots.
- You must also fill out a box with the details of your complaint.
- Enter your name and phone number in the designated space.
- You can finally file the complaint after completing the OTP verification.
The webpage also advises those who have been victims of financial fraud or cybercrime to report the occurrence to the Government of India’s website at https://www.cybercrime.gov.in, or to the cybercrime phone number at 1930.
What is the Digital Intelligence Platform
To facilitate real-time intelligence sharing and coordination among stakeholders, including telecom service providers (TSPs), law enforcement agencies (LEAs), banks, financial institutions (FIs), social media platforms, and identity document issuing authorities, the Department of Technology (DoT) also developed the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP), which will act as a secure and integrated hub.
To support stakeholders in their respective fields, it will also save data on telecom resource misuse instances. Additionally, it will serve as the backend repository for citizen-initiated requests on the Sanchar Saathi portal. Only authorized stakeholders with secure connectivity will be able to access it, and it will distribute relevant information according to their responsibilities.
