Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri recently announced that users all around the world may now download Instagram Reels from public accounts directly to their camera roll. The function, which was first released in the US in June, has gone through beta testing and is now accessible for iOS and Android users.
The capability is comparable to TikTok’s download capabilities in that users may access the download option via the share button. To safeguard the original creator’s work, the downloaded Reels are kept in the device’s gallery and watermarked with the original poster’s Instagram username.
Unless the account owner alters their download settings, the upgrade applies to all public accounts, allowing anybody on Instagram to download and distribute Reels. The download option is initially disabled for Instagram users under the age of 18 who have public profiles, but they can reactivate it at any time.
Instagram developed regulations to protect the privacy and accessibility of Reels in the official FAQ. It is noted that account privacy settings will be critical in deciding whether or not Reel downloads are accessible to other users.
Reels from public accounts can be downloaded by any Instagram user. The download parameters can be tailored to individual postings or the entire account. Users under the age of 18 with public accounts have the download capability blocked by default, with the option to activate it later.
Reel downloads, on the other hand, are prohibited for private accounts. This means that no one on Instagram can view the material unless the account owner chooses to make it public.
Meanwhile, Instagram public account holders may now modify their download settings. This gives them the ability to regulate whether or not their followers may download their Reels.
To Manage Settings:
- Tap Next in the bottom right after recording and editing your reel.
- At the bottom, tap More Choices.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Advanced Settings.
- Locate “Allow people to download your reels” and flick the switch to enable or disable the setting.
- Select whether to enable or prevent downloading for all reels or only the reel being uploaded.
- To return, press back in the upper left corner, then share at the bottom.
Instagram adds that in the case of public accounts. Only freshly generated reels may be downloaded unless the download settings are changed. The downloaded reels will feature an Instagram watermark, the original poster’s username, and audio credit. Furthermore, the original audio from a reel can only be included in a downloaded reel if the original reel containing that audio is available.
