Hours after President Ram Nath Kovid rejected the mercy plea of Nirbhaya case convict Mukesh Singh on Friday, the Delhi court has issued fresh death warrants for the execution of the four convicts in Nirbhaya Gangrape Case.
The convicts will now be hanged on February 1 At 6 am. The court has early set Jan 22 as the day to execute the convicts. However, Tihar Jail told the court that execution could not take place until all mercy pleas were settled.
Meanwhile, Nibhaya’s mother has blamed AAP and other political parties for politicising the matter.
Vinay Sharma, Mukesh Singh, Akshay Kumar Singh and Pawan Gupta are the four convicts to be hanged for their heinous crime. Two other accused were also arrested for their involvement in the case that dates back to December 16, 2012.
The fisfth accused – Ram Singh – allegedly committed suicide in Tihar Jail during the trial and the sixth man, a few months short of 18 at the time of the incident, was released after three years in a reform facility.

The three other convicts can still file the mercy petition before February 1. However, each time a mercy petition is filed and rejected, that 14-day period must be observed, thereby prolonging the execution.
The convicts seem to be filing mercy petition one by one in an attempt to extend the execution date. If it’s so, the court needs to interfere and get things done quickly. Nirbhaya case, just like many other cases in India, has already consumed so much court’s time.
