Nirbhaya Case: No Stay On Execution As Convicts To Be Hanged ‘Tomorrow’

After lots of ups and downs hanging of the 4 convicts in the Nirbhaya case is all but certain. A Delhi court has reserved the order on the plea of convicts today. The convicts were seeking stay on execution.

The Delhi court kept the plea reserved saying that there is a pendency of various applications in different legal forums. The 4 convicts would be hanged as scheduled tomorrow that is 20th March, 5:30 A.M. The convicts earlier moved to International Court of Justice (ICJ) to get stay on their execution.

Curative petition of Pawan Gupta, one of the convicts, was rejected earlier in the day by the court. The court denied Pawan’s claim that he was juvenile at the time of crime. Further, the second mercy petition of Pawan and Akshay have not been entertained by the President Ram Nath Kovind.

Meanwhile, the hangmen at the Tihar jail started the preparations. As per reports hanging of dummies were done ahead of the hanging of convicts. The hangmen have arrived 3 days ahead on 17th March for the hanging.

The Patiala House court altogether dismissed the plea of convicts seeking a stay on execution. The hanging would be done as per schedule on 20th March that is tomorrow at 5:30 A.M. This would be the 1st time that four men will be hanged together in Tihar Jail

Meanwhile wife of one of the convict ‘Akshay’, “Punita Devi” had a nervous breakdown outside the court. She fainted outside the court. Later Punita started to beat her self while crying creating a ‘scene’ after the court rejected the plea of the convicts.

The advocates of the convicts said that the 4 are ready to serve the country. The government can send them to the Indo-Pak border, send them to Doklam, rather than hanging.
