No Child at Work, Uttar Pradesh’s Mission to End Child Labour by 2027
To end child labour in the state by 2027, the Uttar Pradesh government has started a new initiative. Instead of forcing children to work, the action is viewed as a part of the government’s attempts to protect their rights and give them a suitable education.
The government will step up efforts to find and rescue youngsters involved in child labour and take strong legal action against child labourers’ employers under the new strategy. The mission will prioritise the rescued children’s education, therapy, and rehabilitation in addition to enforcement.
To educate the public on the negative impacts of child employment and the legal consequences for violations of children’s rights, special drives and awareness initiatives will be held throughout the state. District-level task groups will be established to monitor developments and carry out the strategy as necessary.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, especially Goal 8.7, which aims to end child labour in all of its manifestations, are in line with this objective.
The government has urged schools, non-governmental organisations, and the general public to join this initiative and work together to eradicate child labour in Uttar Pradesh by 2027.
