The call for censorship of Over the top (OTT) has been going on for long in India. And now platforms like Netflix have started doing it silently. Netflix has started censoring content published on its platform in India silently. Yes, the popular OTT platform is doing it and you don’t know.
Netflix is censoring Hollywood movies before its publication on its platform in India. As per reports from Medianama Netflix censored Hollywood movie, Mission Impossible: Fallout before its release in India. The Tom Crusie starter 2018 movie’s censored version was released online. The movie’s normal version was however released in theaters before coming on Netflix.
As per reports, the scenes from the movie showing maps of Kashmir were censored. Netflix and other OTT platforms have faced the heat from the government in regards to censoring the content however Netflix didn’t resorted to this before 2018. The censored scene was a part of the movie’s climax.
When contacted in regard to the issue Netflix refused to comment on the matter. In the past, Netflix has done tweaking and censored bits, for some Indian movie titles like Udta Punjab and Angry Indian Goddesses. However, censoring was not done in such a manner. This raises the question of whether it is the new normal of Netflix doing it silently without informing.
