Another indirect warning from the Income Tax Department about your PAN or Permanent Account Numbers becoming inactive from the start of the next financial year, April 1, 2023, is issued, if it’s not linked with your Aadhaar. So, after this deadline, this unique identity number will become inactive.

Till now a large number of citizens have already linked their financial document with Aadhaar but a lot many are still ignoring the consequences.
“As per Income-tax Act, 1961, it is mandatory for all PAN holders, who do not fall under the exempt category, to link their PAN with their Aadhaar before 31.3.2023. From 1.04.2023, the unlinked PAN shall become inoperative. Link it before it’s too late. Don’t delay, link it today!”, says the Twitter post of Income Tax India.
What Happens When Your PAN Becomes Inoperative?
When your PAN becomes inoperative you should not be able to file ITR, you will not be able to process a pending return, filing a revised or belated return will not be possible, and tax can be deducted at a higher rate.

Here’s How to Link Your PAN With your Aadhaar:
- First, you will have to visit this official site.
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar and select the Validate option.
- After filling up all your details wisely click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option.
- Now enter a 6-digit OTP received on your registered mobile number.
- This will link your PAN and Aadhaar. You can check the status afterwards.
- Remember to wait for 4-5 working days before raising any query.
