Lucknow: It has been noticed that a large number of young candidates have filled the nominations for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Panchayat elections. The UP Panchayat elections are going to be held between 15th April to 29th April 2021.
However, the UP Panchayat elections will be held in four phases. As per the State Election Commission, the first phase of polling will hold on April 15, the second phase on April 19, the third phase on April 26 and the fourth on April 29. Voting will begin at 7 am and continue till 6 pm.
As per the Block Development Officer (BDO) Pooja Singh of Bakshi ka Talab block in Lucknow, most of the people who have purchased the nomination form since Holi are youngsters. The age of these peoples is below 30. She also said that many more youngsters are likely to join the list in the coming days.
Pooja Singh additionally added to her statement that “The zeal and determination of these young candidates coming to serve the village is a good indication. Young professionals are coming with the motive of bringing a change in their local village, which should be welcomed.”
Young voters
This year, the Panchayat elections also have a high level of young voters. Approx. 46% of the voters in Uttar Pradesh are below 35 years of age. In addition to these, nearly one crore will be voting for the first time. There are 12.4 crore voters in Uttar Pradesh. Out of this, 6.6 crores are men and 5.8 crores are women.

The main reason behind the nomination of young candidates in the Uttar Pradesh Panchayat elections could be the huge proportions of young voters. This year, young candidates are lining up for all posts, such as gram panchayat member, gram pradhan, kshetra panchayat member, or Zilla panchayat member.

- For Phase-I: Nomination on April 3, 4
- For Phase-II: Nomination on April 7, 8
- For Phase-III: Nomination on April 13, 15
- For Phase-IV: Nomination on April 17, 18
