International Astronomical Union (IAU) has named an asteroid after Indian classical singer Pandit Jasraj. The asteroid, earlier known as a minor planet, orbits Sun from between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter and is the first celestial body to be named after an Indian.

Pandit Jasraj is an Indian classical vocalist, belonging to the Mewati gharana. His musical career has spanned more than 80 years and led to numerous major awards. He has been conferred with honours including Padam Shri, Padma Vibhushan and Padam Bhushan.
