What Are Window Tickets?
“Window tickets” are tickets purchased from the railway counter — not online. Earlier, if you had a waiting list or RAC window ticket, you could still board the train and try your luck. But now:
- If the ticket isn’t confirmed during final charting,
- You cannot board the reserved coach.
This rule brings counter tickets under the same strict norms as online tickets, which were already being auto-canceled if unconfirmed.

If a Ticket Examiner (TT) finds you in a reserved coach without confirmation, here’s what may happen:
- You could be fined ₹440
- You might be removed from the train
