The Union Cabinet made extremely excellent news for the farmers. The government has authorized another program for farmers. Apart from the PM Kisan program and the Kisan Credit Card, lakhs of farmers in the country will now profit from the PM-Pranam program. When presenting the budget in February, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned this plan.
The Union Cabinet approved a new initiative called ‘PM-Pranaam’ on Wednesday to promote alternative fertilizers and urge states to limit their usage of chemical fertilizers. In the budget year 2023-24, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the implementation of the PM PRANAM (PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness, Creation, Nurturing, and Improvement of the Earth) initiative.
What Is The Goal Of This Scheme?
The government will work through this program to lower the chemical fertilizer subsidy, hence reducing the usage of chemical fertilizers in agriculture. Fertilizers with fewer chemicals would not only increase the condition of the land, but people will be able to eat healthier foods and their lifestyles will improve as well. Aside from that, the government’s spending will be reduced.
Fertiliser Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told reporters that the Centre will push states to promote alternative fertilizers and limit the usage of chemical fertilizers under this plan.
He gave the example of a state that uses 10 lakh tonnes of traditional fertilizers and cuts its usage by three lakh tonnes, saving Rs 3,000 crore in subsidies. 50 percent of the remaining subsidy, or Rs 1,500 crore, would be handed to that state for the usage of alternative fertilizers and other development projects.
Aside from that, a significant decision for sugarcane growers across the country was made today. Sugarcane’s FRP, or Fair and Remunerative Price, has been raised to Rs 315 per quintal. It has been put in place for the marketing year 2023-24. This government action will help 5 lakh workers in addition to 5 crore sugarcane growers.
