In a piece of horrible news, Kenya’s only remaining female white giraffe was killed by poachers adding to the woes of the attempts being taken to conserve the rare animal. Found only in Kenya, the calf of the giraffe was also killed as per a report by The Guardian.
With the death of the animal, only one of its kind, a lone male, is left in the world. The bodies of the two giraffes were found “in a skeletal state after being killed by armed poachers” in Garissa in eastern Kenya, the Ishaqbini Hirola Community Conservancy said in a statement.
Mohammed Ahmednoor, the manager of the conservancy was devastated after hearing the news as he shares how they have been trying to conserve the animal of the years.

“Its killing is a blow to tremendous steps taken by the community to conserve rare and unique species, and a wakeup call for continued support to conservation efforts.”
The white giraffe was first identified back in 2017. She then gave birth to two calves the last one in August.
As per The Guardian, the white features of the animal are the result of a condition known as leucism, which means they continue to produce dark pigment in their soft tissue, giving them dark eyes.
