Fact Check: What Whatsapp Chats Tell Us About JNU Violence? BJP Or Opposition?

The blame game has begun between the opposition and the Centre after some 50+ miscreants barged into the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus on Sunday and beat students and teachers at the campus.

While the students are alleging Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (obviously) of leading the attack, the Centre says Congress and AAP were involved.

Amidst all this, some WhatsApp chats screenshots have also emerged that paints a two-fold picture. Have a look.

Here’s the first screenshot that has been doing the rounds. In the picture, a user named Saurabh Dubey can be seen promoting violence. And on scanning the number over Truecaller, Scroll.in found that it belongs to the person with the same name.

His Facebook profile shows he is an assistant professor at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening College of the University of Delhi. And manages a group called “JNUites for MODI”.

The second image is a screenshot from a group named “Friends of RSS”. Similar hate speech and violent messages exchange are obvious if you read the chat.

The Twist

The third picture comes with a twist. A person named Onkar Srivastava, who, according to his FB profile, is a state executive committee member of ABVP in Delhi and former vice president of ABVP at JNU in 2015-16. He can be seen asking “if police had arrived”.

To the same, a person replies, that the police won’t come as the VC has barred them from entering the campus, thus letting miscreants do the job.

However, here’s the twist, when you scan the number of the person who says “Apna VC hai” you will notice that, the number belongs to a crowdfunding website by INC.

The congress, however, has said that the number no more belongs to it.

Another screenshot that was shared paints a different picture.

In the same one can notice that the name of the group was changed multiple times until in the end, it appears pro-ABVP.

The group name was changed from “.” to “Sanghi goons Murdabadh” and then to “ABVP Chee Chee” and finally to “Left Terror Down Down”.

All the evidence, if true, don’t clarify who is to blame. However, deliver enough evidence for the Delhi police, (if they want to pretend they a good for something) can use to nab the culprits.
