Prime Minister VishwakarmaYojana: Scheme Overview, Eligibility Criteria, Beneficiaries And Stipend

On August 17, two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the PM Vishwakarma Yojana from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15, 2023, the cabinet approved the plan. The project aims to improve artisans’ and craftspeople’s family-based practise of traditional skills. The government has set up Rs 13,000 crore for the project over a five-year period.

What Is Vishwakarma Yojana?

Vishwakarma Yojana is a program that aims to develop and nurture the Guru-Shishya parampara, or family-based practice of ancient skills by craftsmen and craftspeople using their hands and tools.

PM Modi introduced the initiative during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort on August 15, 2023, and it was approved by the cabinet committee on economic issues on August 17. The plan has a five-year budget of Rs 13,000 crore (from FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28). 

What Is The Objective Of The Vishwakarma Yojana?

One of the scheme’s primary goals is to increase the quality and reach of artists and crafts people’s goods and services, as well as to assure their integration into local and worldwide value chains.

What Will Vishwakarma Yojana Beneficiaries Get?

Artists and craftspeople will be issued a PM Vishwakarma certificate and an ID card as part of the PM Vishwakarma Yojana.

In terms of monetary incentives, Vishwakarma would receive financial support of up to Rs. 1 lakh (First Tranche) and Rs. 2 lahks (Second Tranche) at a 5% concessional interest rate.

Beneficiaries of the initiative will also get skill development, incentives for digital transactions, marketing assistance, and toolkit incentives.

What Is The Targeted Audience For Vishwakarma Yojana?

The initiative would help craftsmen and crafters in both rural and urban India and will not be limited to a single region.
